Upon closer questioning they introduced a concept somewhat alien to me, yet perfectly acceptable within Chinese culture, that of a ‘platonic marriage’, a marriage simply based on friendship without any sex ever taking place.

When I informed them that in western culture this kind of marriage is almost unheard of, and would be considered somewhat pointless not to mention somewhat immoral, it left them scratching their head and asking why. And this is the point: Within Chinese culture there are many reasons to marry apart from love. This is why a westerner considering marriage to a Chinese woman has to be extra-careful.

I’ve known some divorced guys who were really disappointed with how their marriage turned out. 2. A certain allowance of a mans flaws in favor of his positive qualities.

3. A high level of attractiveness that they make sure they retain throughout their life.

These are just several of the benefits that spring to mind. Marrying a Chinese woman for a second marriage after divorce, in many cases makes for a very successful coupling as long as the man looks closer at exactly what kind of expectations his future wife has of their marriage.
