The Hero Karizma is the most stylish bike from Hero MotoCorp. In the lower capacity bike segments of 100 cc and 125 cc the rivalry is between the brands ‘Hero’ and the ‘Honda.’ But in segments from 150 cc to 250 cc there are more competitors. The 220 cc bike Hero Karizma stands tall because of its style and performance. The Karizma was launched long back in 2003 as a touring motor bike. After many facelifts the Karizma is now available in 2 refreshed variants unveiled late last year. In June 2014 they have quietly launched the two models, the Karizma R and the Karizma ZMR.

The Karizma R is a semi-faired bike and the ZMR is a fully faired variant. The Karizma R is priced Rupees 80,300 and the ZMR 1,01,100 ex-showrooms. The Karizma R is available in colours of yellow, black, red, grey and white. The ZMR is available in red, black, white and orange. The all digital console of ZMR has digital speedometer, tachometer, 2 trip meters, fuel gauge and low fuel indication. The speedometer and the tachometer of the Karizma R are analogue type.

The Hero MotoCorp has retained the engine in the new models also. The Karizma R is powered by a 223 cc, 19.2 bhp, 19.3 NM torque SOHC air cooled engine with carburetor and advanced micro processor ignition system. The ZMR engine is tuned to 17.8 bhp and 18.3 NM torque with injector fuel system. The fuel efficiency of the Karizma is 42 to 45 kmpl. The transmission is 5 speed manual and the clutch is wet multi-plate type. The Karizma takes 3.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph and the top speed is 126 to 129 kmph.

The dimensions of the Karizma R are 2125 mm length, 755 mm width, 1160 mm height and 1355 mm wheel base and that of the ZMR are 2110 mm length, 805 mm width, 1175 mm height and 1360 mm wheel base. The Karizma weighs 154 to 157 kg. The chassis is diamond type and the suspension is hydraulic telescopic with 135 mm travel at the front and the swing arm with 5 step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. The alloy wheels have tubeless tyres. The brakes are 270 mm disc at the front and 130 mm drum at the rear for the R and 276 mm disc at the front and 240 mm disc at the rear for the ZMR.

The mileages, low end torques and the city and highway usability are the plus points of the Karizma. The competition comes from the bikes like the Bajaj NS200, the Bajaj 220F and the TVS Apache RTR 180.
